Preds Sign Missouri Two-Way Forward Van Gels

Provo, Utah. – The Provo Predators announced today that the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) Premier club has signed forward Trent Van Gels for the 2022-23 junior season.

“I was unsure of what I was getting into when I arrived in Provo. I was definitely nervous about what everything would be like considering that I have only seen pictures, but the in-person experience was a huge difference,” Van Gels said of his first visit to northern Utah. “After getting to know some of the area and Coach Dreyer, I enjoyed the environment around me enough to lead me to sign with the Predators. It’s an exciting future here and I am happy to be part of it.”

Van Gels, 18 (11/4/03), was a two-way driving force behind his Milwaukee Power squad of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) during the 2021-22 season. His 2 goals and 9 assists were tied for 11th in scoring on his former team.

“Trent is a relentless two-way guy who is going to be a disruptor in the Mountain Division. He is going to come in on day one and compete for a top spot in our lineup while making others around him better as well. We are beyond excited to get the chance to work with him this season”, Coach Dreyer said of his Missouri recruit in Van Gels.

The 5-10, 170-pound forward and native of O’Fallon, MO, is coming off his first junior season. Previously, Van Gels played for well-known Missouri programs Afton Americans 18U, CarShield AAA 16U and Fort Zumwalt West High School.

“I’m thrilled to join Predators. Not only do I get to work with a coach that is from St. Louis like myself but I look forward to improving my game even more and challenging myself and others to get better.”

Van Gels now joins Yuri Ushakov and Bryson Stern as the first three signings of Dreyer’s 2022-23 Predators roster with more reinforcements on the way.

“I look forward to meeting new people. That’s the main thing about a new team – getting to interact with people you’ve never met before, skating with those new teammates and seeing how you can work with everyone to help the team.”
