Preds Add Wisconsin Defenseman Jackson Schaefer

Provo, Utah. – The Provo Predators announced today that the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) Premier club has signed defenseman Jackson Schaefer for the 2022-23 junior season.

“It was an interesting one for sure”, Schaefer said on his journey to Provo. “After getting cut from several tier II programs, I was told I had a spot and a different team but things didn’t work out. Out of nowhere, Coach Dreyer called me up and offered me a spot on the team.”

Schaefer, 18 (4/8/04), is a dominant two-way defender with a steadiness to his game that will allow the Predators to be risk takers while he is on the ice.

“Jackson comes from a great pedigree of high-level hockey. We feel confident in his ability to play all situations for us, be a leader on and off the ice and make his mark in this league”, Coach Dreyer excitedly said of his new defenseman.

The 6-1, 175-pound defenseman and native of Sussex, WI, joins the Predators blue line from the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals AAA program. In 2021-22, Schaefer scored 0-21=21 points in 68 games while skating nearly 19 minutes per game for his club.

“Coming from the Midwest, I bring some of the classic physicality and flare that you’d expect from a player in Wisconsin. I like to combine the grittiness with smooth skating and a little bit of offensive flash’”

Schaefer is a prototypical player for the fracas Mountain Division that is known for speed and physicality.

“My mindset coming into this season is earn everything and have fun doing it. I think a good team goal for us for this season is to make the playoffs."

Schaefer, along with the Preds, will take the ice Friday, September 30th against the Utah Outliers for the home opener with special guests: The Green Man Group.
